Crazy Things My Kids Say, Volume 8

Those of you who have children know, these little creatures say some very entertaining things. I got some great advice from someone I work with. She speaks from experience, as her children are now in their late teens and early twenties, when she tells me, "Chuck, you need to write these things down."

I decided that I not only need to write these things down, but I need to share them with other parents as well. Most of these quotes will have no context, because, to be quite honest, we usually don't get any context from the kids. We just happen to hear a part of what they are saying, and they will almost never repeat the phrases or explain them to us.

Here are the gems for this week:

As we were getting ready to eat dinner, our son decided to change his clothes. FYI those of you who don't have kids, this happens any time you want to eat, leave the house, teach them something, etc. I went to his room and asked him how long he was going to be. His response, "About 29 hours!"

We have had a bout with poison ivy this week. Nate probably had it worse than any of us. One night before bed I was putting some calamine lotion on his belly. I asked him how it felt. He looked at me very matter-of-factly and stated "It's getting hot and cold in here."

I was getting the kids ready for bed the next night and they had the charm turned up to 11. The few minutes before bed are when some of the most precious things come from a child's mouth, even if I think this one on me as a stall tactic. That being said, it was said in such a loving manner, then repeated by Katelyn, that my heart melted. He looked me right in the eye and gave me the compliment of the year, "Daddy, I love you more than ice cream!"

The last quote I wanted to share with you guys this week is "Elephants are as big as grandma!" Nate said it, but I have no idea what brought it on. We got no context, no warning, no explanation. We don't know which Grandma, why he was thinking about elephants or any other details. I tried to get him to talk more about it, but he just moved on to "Are rhinos tougher than elephants?"

Those were our funny quotes this week. With kids around, you never know what to expect. Please let me know in the comments section any of the funny things the kids in your life have said. I'd love to hear your stories. I would love to do a blog post of quotes from all of you one day soon! I just need you to share those quotes with me!
